According to The Pulse Of Radio, drummer Matt Cameron, who sits behind the kit for SOUNDGARDEN, PEARL JAM and TEMPLE OF THE DOG, was asked in an interview with The Trap Set to compare working with SOUNDGARDEN to PEARL JAM. He responded: "It's just different band dynamics in general... I think my role in SOUNDGARDEN is a little bit more of a musical director role, whereas in PEARL JAM it's more of a supporting in the rhythm section kind of role. I think the collaboration I have in SOUNDGARDEN is bigger in the creative realm, but I feel very fortunate to be in two really fantastic bands."

The Pulse Of Radio asked Cameron a while back if he alters his style for either band. "I don't think I do," he said. "I mean, I'm just really trying to play my role in each group. I definitely feel like I support the vocal in both groups. The music around the vocal is a little bit different. But that's the way I've always considered my drumming, is vocal-influenced. I've been lucky enough to play with two of the best singers in modern day history, so I think that's always sort of been my strength as a drummer."

Asked about playing in two of the most successful and influential rock groups of the past 25 years, Cameron told The Trap Set: "I totally earned it, I worked my tail off for it, but I think there's always an element of luck in success in the music industry, for sure."

Cameron will be inducted with PEARL JAM into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in early 2017 if the band — which made the nominee list this year — is chosen for that honor.

SOUNDGARDEN has been eligible for induction since 2012 but has yet to be nominated.

TEMPLE OF THE DOG, which features members of both bands and is touring for the first time since it was formed in 1990, starts a two-night stand in San Francisco on Friday night

How are they going to record the new album of Soundgarden?
All right, even though we started working on it rather slowly because of Chris commitments, but also mine. We recorded demos of six, maybe seven songs and now we will write many. We cut the time to make up before going into the recording studio.
And the new Pearl Jam?
For now the only plan it together and writing new songs.
The Pearl Jam's entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has a special meaning for you? And how many drummers will be present?
Things are out of my control, I have no idea what will happen with the drummers, I just know that those who enter the Hall of Fame's me and Dave Krusen. It is an honor. It will be funny.

Afternoon Show Tribute to Chris Cornell from Matt Cameron

As part of KEXP’s remembrance of Chris Cornell on what would have been his 53rd birthday, The Afternoon Show with Kevin Cole will broadcast an alternate final setlist at 4:00 PM (PST), which was graciously provided to KEXP by Soundgarden/Pearl Jam drummer and local music fixture Matt Cameron. Below, Cameron writes in a brief e-mail exchange with Kevin Cole about the setlist:

Matt Cameron: Hi Kevin. I wanted to share the last setlist I wrote for Soundgarden on that fateful night in Detroit, May 17, 2017. Chris and I were trading off writing sets for our last tour. Back in the day Chris wrote all sets, but since 2010, I was writing more than I ever had and enjoying it tremendously. Whenever I completed a set, I sent it to Chris first for approval. For the Detroit show, Chris decided to write the set and that’s what we ended up playing that night. To commemorate his birthday, I was hoping KEXP could play my setlist. Peace to you my friend and thank you for years of support. I share this with you, our favorite hometown station.

It’s about 90 minutes of music, so I’ll probably start around 4 PM. Would you mind if I read/posted your message and the set list for context? Thinking of you and the Soundgarden family on this day.

Matt Cameron: Yes, please share if you would like. I wanted to stop by today on his birthday to say hello, but words are failing me and going out in public is still not feeling right, but I would love to stop by eventually. Maybe in the fall. My life is in extreme flux at the moment, but I/we love the support of our local music community and KEXP has been a beacon of strength for me since Chris passed. Thank you.
